Kriminelle inserieren günstige Wohnungen in guter Lage. Sie teilen Wohnungssuchenden mit, dass eine Besichtigung der Immobilie nur gegen Bezahlung einer hohen Kaution möglich sei. Interessent/innen, die das Geld an das genannten Maklerbüro bezahlen, verlieren es, denn es gibt die angebotene Wohnung nicht.
Auf Immobilienplattformen finden Wohnungssuchende günstige Angebote in bester Lage. Nehmen sie Kontakt mit den Vermieter/innen auf, erhalten sie die Rückmeldung, dass die Wohnung noch zu haben sei:

Im weiteren Verlauf des Schriftverkehrs stellt sich heraus, dass die Vermieter/innen aus dem Ausland sind. Aus diesem Grund ist eine Besichtigung der Wohnung nicht ohne Weiteres möglich. Sie soll deshalb über “Airbnb.com Home Delivery Express” erfolgen:

2. 3. After the payment is confirmed the delivery process will start and when you will receive the keys, you will have 2 days inspection period before your final decision to rent .
4. If all is in order, you will instruct Airbnb to give me the money. Further rents will be sent directly to my bank account.

Wohnungssuchende, die sich für die Immobilie interessieren und die Kaution bezahlen wollen, erhalten einen Link, der zu Airbnb führt: airbnb-com-room-2084792.synergize.co/book/4142828. Die Adresszeile des Browsers zeigt mit schwarz hervorgehobenen Buchstaben an, dass Besucher/innen in Wahrheit auf der Website synergize.co sind. Sie gehört nicht airbnb.com und wird von Kriminellen für ihren Betrugsversuch genutzt:
Es folgen gefälschte Airbnb-Nachrichten, die die Wohnungssuchenden zu einer Geldüberweisung ins Ausland drängen. Als Argument dafür wird ins Treffen geführt, dass Vermieter/innen bereits - wie vereinbart - den Schlüssel an das Unternehmen übergeben haben. Aus diesem Grund sollen Interessent/innen ihren Teil der Vereinbarung erfüllen und die Kaution für die Wohnungsbesichtigung bezahlen. Dass die E-Mails in Wahrheit nicht echt sind, erkennen Wohnungssuche an der E-Mailadresse. Sie verwendet zwar den Name „Airbnb“, die dazugehörige E-Mailadresse stimmt damit jedoch nicht überein und lautet z.B. @airbnb-musterseite.com. Interessent/innen, die das Geld ins Ausland überweisen, verlieren es, denn dafür gibt es weder die Vermieter/innen noch die angebotene Wohnung.
